The short answer: Yes, but with limitations.
If you're renting, avoiding permanent changes, or simply don't want to drill into walls or ceilings, there are a few options - but each comes with trade-offs in strength, appearance, and flexibility.
1. Tension Rods
The most common no-drill method for curtains is the tension rod. It works like a spring-loaded pole held in place by pressure between two vertical surfaces (like inside a window recess).
Pros:
- Inexpensive and widely available
- Great for sheer or lightweight curtains
- Zero tools or damage
Cons:
- Can't hold heavy or lined curtains
- Only works inside a recess (not across walls or ceilings)
- Can slip or fall over time if overloaded
2. Adhesive Curtain Rod Brackets
There are brackets that use 3M-style adhesive to attach curtain rods to walls or frames.
Pros:
- No drilling
- Works outside window frames (unlike tension rods)
- Neater appearance than tension rods
Cons:
- Limited weight capacity
- Adhesive may fail in humid rooms
- Not ideal for long-term or full-length curtains
3. Magnetic or Clamp Mounting (Very Niche)
Some curtain rods are designed to magnetically attach to metal window frames (usually in commercial settings), or clamp onto frames without screws.
These are rare and generally unsuitable for residential homes in Singapore unless your window frames are steel. Even so, we wouldn't recommend them.
What We Recommend
If you're dressing a rental unit or just need a light layer of privacy, tension or adhesive rods can work in a pinch.
But for floor-length curtains, heavy fabrics, or motorised systems, proper installation with drilling is strongly recommended - it's safer, neater, and longer-lasting.
And yes, we can help you drill safely and neatly.
